Remodeling a small bathroom

Rustic Bathroom & Small Closet Transformation

Do you ever find yourself stuck in that seemingly never-ending loop of almost-but-not-quite-finished home projects? You know, the ones where you’re at 90-95% completion and it feels like crossing that finish line is just out of reach? Well, welcome to my world. My closet and bathroom remodel journey has been a rollercoaster of excitement, frustration, and ultimately, transformation.

Small Rustic Bathroom

Let’s start with the sink area, an awkward space that posed quite a design challenge. With a layout that couldn’t accommodate a traditional door, I had to get creative. I envisioned a bold wallpaper to inject personality into the room. It had to coordinate with an already bold primary bedroom.

There was just one tiny HUGE hiccup – Ryan (aka the husband) loathes wallpaper. But hey, love conquers all, right? Choosing the perfect wallpaper was not easy. After much deliberation (and a few Instagram Polls), we settled on a bold but brighter, rustic design full of gorgeous pine trees.

Pro tip: always get samples and live with them for a while. Wallpaper is an investment, and making the right choice is crucial.

Peel and Stick vs Paste Wallpaper for the Small Rustic Bathroom

I  was extra nervous because this gorgeous wallpaper from Wallpaper Direct was not a peel-and-stick paper. I know Ryan could handle peel and stick, but I was extra nervous because it required glue.

However, I can report that the glue was actually easier than I thought, and possibly even easier to work with than peel-and-stick wallpaper.

Pro Tip: Your glue matters! And note, that the glue can dry quickly, you will want to work fast and also roll on a thick layer to the wall. You want to ensure the paper is fully adhered to the wall and this requires a decent coat of glue on the wall.

Small Rustic Bathroom Cost Breakdown

With the wallpaper setting the tone, the rest of the room came together effortlessly (well all but that last 10%)

A pair of rustic but functional mirrors, sleek new lights, and charming faucets complemented the rustic vibe without overpowering it. Cottage Green paint for the vanity (color comes from the house color palette), coupled with tasteful accessories from Amazon, breathed new life into the space.

Wallpaper: $470
Paint: Had
Mirrors: $105.98
Faucets: $60
Lights: $105
Knobs & Pulls: $16.76+$39.00
Towel bars: $32 (for 2)
Shelf Liner: $10
Misc supplies:  $100

Pro Tip: When ordering your lighting be aware of the space between the light cover/glass and ensure there is enough clearance to go over your mirror.

The Final 10% Of Our Small Rustic Bathroom

As for the infamous remaining 10%, well, it’s a work in progress. Installing knobs, towel bars, and perhaps a trim piece for the walls are on the agenda. This may be the longest project of my life, but gosh it’s a HUGE transformation and I am obsessed! I mean this tree wallpaper is everything

Tiny Closet, Huge Makeover

A tiny space in desperate need of a makeover. Our goals (haha my goals) were simple: clean it up, ditch the unsightly wire shelves, and maximize storage without sacrificing aesthetics. Easier said than done.

After removing the old (that was literally falling off the walls and broken), and cleaning up the small closet space with a fresh coat of paint, we dove headfirst into customization mode. While I envisioned repurposed drawers and wooden shelving, my husband had grander plans. What ensued was a labor-intensive process of building custom storage solutions that tested my patience and sanity.

Tiny Closet, Massive Chaos

Living in a tiny house magnified the chaos, turning every corner into a cluttered mess. In order to completely remodel one room, it requires moving everything out of that space… But when you are living in a small home there is nowhere to put it, so it’s out of mind. Resulting in living in chaos for an entire month

However, it was so worth it! I was ecstatic when I could finally hang clothes and neatly organize bins. Sure, reaching the top shelf required some acrobatics, but we will worry about that another day.

Closet Makeover Cost for a Tiny Space

As the dust settles and the paint dries, I can’t help but marvel at the transformation. But in addition to time, there certainly was a cost to overhaul this tiny space. My goal in sharing these remodels is to provide full transparency on cost and timeline.

Instagram has inspired me beyond belief to make our house a home, but the reality of DIYing on the cheap or massive transformations in 24 hours isn’t reality… or at least a reality I have found

Cost Breakdown:
Paint: $45
Wood: $350
Fixtures (Brackets, rods etc)
Baskets: $100 (for 6)
Drawer slides: $60
Drawer pulls: (Used the ones above)
Basket Labels: $9

And we still need a few items to finish the space, a small mirror, and extra organization for belts and bags.

The Last 10% to Complete the Rustic Bathroom and Closet Remodel

So, as I gear up for the next project (Stay tuned I am BEYOND Excited it’s going to be a fun one with a bit of a spin) and say peace out to the never-ending saga of the 90% completed remodel, I’m reminded that sometimes the longest journeys lead to the most beautiful destinations. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: in the world of home renovations, patience is not just a virtue – it’s a necessity. (and one I need to work on)

Here’s to embracing the chaos, conquering the last 10%, and turning our houses into homes we love, one project at a time. And with that, the Primary Bedroom, bathroom, and closet are complete (for now) on to the next one!
