Fall Home Decor Ideas: Tips and Tricks for Fall
With fall being just around the corner, it’s a great time to beat the stress that comes with fall prep and start slowly shopping for the perfect fall decor. There is nothing worse than waiting last minute to decorate during all the other craziness life brings in the fall.
Stores like HomeGoods and Target have a great selection of fall decor that is within the budget. The biggest tip I could give is to buy versatile staple items that you won’t get sick of next year. Things like solid colors with a few fun pieces.
First things first: out with the old and in with the new. Organize and figure out what you have that you love vs what you have that is outdated. Starting with a clean slate is so helpful and makes shopping easier as you know exactly what to get.
Fall Decor Shopping Guide
Shopping for Fall can sound daunting but can be really fun if you know what to get.
Decorative pillows are a great start to incorporate fall into your home. They play a crucial role in home decor, especially during the fall seasons. Rule of thumb: Choose 1-2 fall design pillows (can be leaves, pumpkins, etc) and then the rest solid fall colors. This will help not overcrowd the space with design and make it timeless. Decorative pillows serve as a versatile element that is inexpensive.
Throw blankets bring a cozy feel to your home. As the weather starts getting cooler and the leaves start to change, sitting outside snuggled up with a cozy blanket is a must. Make sure you incorporate throw blankets (not bed blankets) as they are easier to store and don’t take up as much space.
Pumpkins are the symbol of fall and add a perfect fall touch for your front porch. Fake pumpkins like ceramic, glass, wood, wicker, or knit ones are perfect for indoor decor and can be reused after each year. For personal touches, gather your family and paint your pumpkins! If you need inspiration on what to paint, Pinterest has a million different ideas that are super cute and not hard to do.
Wreaths are an inviting way to add seasonal decor to your entryway. Whether you want a beautifully created pre-designed wreath or decide to dive into your creative side and create your own, it’s a great way to add a fall touch. You can hang it on your front door to welcome guests or even on the walls inside your house.
Autumn candles are the cherry on top to set the mood and truly what is fall without a fall candle. Bath and Bodyworks is the obvious place to go for all your fall scents but other brands like DW Candles also have an impressive selection. I will say though, Bath and Bodyworks has so many deals and sales that you can get some great candles at a fraction of the price.
Fall Home Decor Trends 2024: Where to Shop
Home decor trends seem to relatively stay the same for a few seasons so having staple pieces will help you save money in the long run.
Target is one of my favorite stores to shop in. Pro tip: if you live near Greenville go to the Target on Woodruff, the selection there is amazing. Is it just me or do you go into Target for one thing and leave with a whole cart full… This is a great place for staple pieces that you won’t get sick of in years to come. Even though it may be a little more expensive than TJ Maxx or HomeGoods, the quality is there and makes spending a few extra dollars worth it.
HomeGoods is the best place to go for fall decor if you don’t want to spend a ton of money. The prices are very reasonable and perfect for fun items with busy fall designs. You shouldn’t invest a ton of money on fall patterned items because if you are anything like me, you will want new ones the next year.
Fall Decor on a Budget
Decorating for fall on a budget isn’t as hard as you may think.
Look for sales! Home decor stores always seem to have sales, it’s just a matter of if you get lucky with what items are on sale.
A fun way to stay within the budget is to DIY by incorporating natural elements like colorful leaves, branches, and pinecones into your decor. A fun idea would be to put pinecones in a center piece for your kitchen table! Pinterest offers endless inspiration for DIY projects using these materials and can be really easy.
You can create pieces that can be reused for years to come and never go out of style. DIY wreath-making is fun and budget-friendly (be mindful of cost if you need to purchase new materials) but if you have all the materials, it’s cheaper than buying a premade wreath.
When you start shopping for fall follow this guide: have a fresh clean slate, organize what you have, look for sales, and try to DIY!
Happy shopping!
