1826 Bistro On The Green
An Upscale Culinary Experience Near Lake Keowee: 1826 Bistro
My journey to 1826 Bistro began with a desire to experience what this historic building had to offer. I would often see the iconic building located in the town square. The restaurant is impossible to miss, standing proudly in the historic Pendleton town square. Intrigued by rave reviews (if you don’t checkout Facebook reviews you are missing out) and recommendations from locals, I knew this restaurant is where I wanted to head for our next date night.
Making a reservation at 1826 Bistro is a throwback for sure. Forget online booking systems; here, you pick up the phone and leave a message, awaiting a return call to confirm your reservation. Anyhow, I must admit I was happily surprised that within 24 hours I had a reservation for a Friday night.
A Restaurant with True Historic Charm, Near Lake Keowee
Arriving at the bistro, I was immediately captivated by its historic charm and perfectly manicured landscaping. Just outside the entryway there were several tables for guests to enjoy either dinner or drinks outside. Personally, I thought it was too chilly for this, but hey, more power to those who chose to sit outside!
We walked in to check in with the hostess and I was immediately surprised at how small the restaurant was. I mean, I knew it was a quaint experience, but the building appeared much larger than it was in actuality. The hostess greeted us warmly, and walked us to a table outside to enjoy a fresh glass of water (with orange slices, not lemon – a great start to our night out!) as we waited for our table to be ready. The wait was brief, and soon we found ourselves immersed in the ambiance of the dining area.
1826 Bistro: Not Your Everyday Culinary Experience
What sets 1826 Bistro apart is its dedication to quality and freshness. The menu, while subject to daily changes and based on seasonal availability, is crafted from locally sourced ingredients and the dishes are certainly unique and far from ordinary. From Squid Ink Linguini to Myrtle Leaf and Olive Steak, each dish is a culinary adventure. Service at 1826 Bistro is nothing short of exceptional. Our waiter was not only knowledgeable and attentive, but also exuded genuine warmth and hospitality. From recommending the perfect drink to guiding us through the menu selections, he ensured that every aspect of our dining experience was nothing short of perfection. Truly some of the best service we have experienced dining near Lake Keowee.
A Truly Immersive Dining Experience
As we indulged in our meal, it became evident that 1826 Bistro is a place where time slows down, and there is no need to rush through conversation. We arrived at the restaurant just before 7:30 and didn’t leave until closer to 9:30. It took awhile for dinner to be served, but truthfully, it was nice being able to enjoy the atmosphere and have uninterrupted conversation and truly be immersed in the experience with no rush or pressure.
The menu caters to more adventurous palates, with more unconventional offerings, especially for this part of Upstate South Carolina. If unique culinary experiences isn’t your thing I would pass on 1826 Bistro. Now, if you want fresh food, amazing service and an opportunity to try something outside of the norm all while sitting in an amazing atmosphere this is hands down the restaurant for you!
Exceptional Food For Reasonable Prices
I was truly shocked at how reasonable the menu was. For being more adventurous and not your every day run of the mill restaurant the prices were not exuberant at all. And then when you take into consideration how small the restaurant was (I believe there were only 10 indoor tables?) I can’t get over how reasonably priced this restaurant is:
* 2 Non alcoholic Rosemary Smash (SO Good! 10/10)
* 2 Beers: Lightning drops by Resident Culture (Ryan enjoyed them)
* Focaccia & Oil (Good when you are hungry! Not award winning, but tasty)
* Calabrian Shrimp Linguini Nero (Fancy Squid Ink Linguini with shrimp… 8/10 no complaints)
*Myrtle Leaf & olive Steak (I did not like this, Ryan ate it but wouldn’t ever order it again. In fairness, I did over hear another gentlemen tell his family he enjoyed it, but for me it was a hard pass)
This restaurant has been on my wish list for some time, and I am glad that I was able to experience all that 1826 Bistro had provided. While the food may not have been to my exact taste, the overall ambiance, service, and attention to detail more than made up for it. For those seeking a unique and unforgettable dining experience near Lake Keowee, 1826 Bistro on The Green is undoubtedly a must-visit destination for those who like a true culinary experience. Taking a quick drive from the southern end of Lake Keowee to The 1826 Bistro in Pendleton is worth the drive.
